Your Artist – Cindy Wallace
This Dreamtime is painted by Cindy Wallace. A self-taught artist, Cindy comes from the well-known Wallace family and has been painting for 28 years. Born in 1973, she stays at Santa Teresa, an Aboriginal Land, about 80km from Alice Springs, Northern Territory, Central Australia. Cindy speaks Anmatyerre & Alwayarr.*
Your Artwork – Bush Food Dreaming
This painting depicts bush foods vividly such as bush sultanas, bush tomatoes, cherries, etc. The design also shows waterholes, running water, walking paths and women with digging sticks.
The Australian Aboriginal people are hunters and gatherers and collect their major diet from the countryside or ‘bush’. As carers and conservationists of their land, the Aboriginal people only collect the amount immediately required.
Designer’s Inspiration
“It’s hard to complete a Signature Collection without giving tribute to our Custodians of the Land and sharing their values to care and respect the land. As a city girl, I am humbled by this experience. I strive to learn from our Aboriginal people to play my part in serving our land, too. I feel very lucky to find this Dreaming by Cindy. I love the colours and am inspired by how striking this neutral-coloured design can be.”
